Future perspectives for physical education in primary school to promote innovative co-planning practices

The fundamental role of motor and sports activities in educational settings has been widely documented by international literature. The physical education (PE) in primary school is a transversal discipline aligning the educational goals to key competencies’ development from a life-long learning and inclusive-design for learning perspective. This paper through an argumentative theoretical approach aims to provide a series of insights into the current teaching scenario that over the next few years will see the involvement in shared planning and programming for all primary school classes of generalist teacher, teacher specialized in motor sciences and support teacher, highlighting strengths, challenges and future research directions of co-planning processes.
In the light of some critical issues that differ according to the various school contexts what clearly emerges is the enormous potential of a complementary and integrated approach in the design and planning of teaching that can enhance the holistic dimension of learning in awareness of the complexity of the variables involved and the dynamics of individual(s) and environment interdependence that characterize the teaching-learning process.
